Featured in the book "The Irish Pub",That Rare Thing, a pub where music and sport complement one another.
Clancy’s represents the old style Irish bar and much has been done to bring it back to its original edwardian state. The exterior is painted in the traditional combination of signal red, black and white. The old red formica sheets are still present on the bar counter. What is an unusual feature in a pub nowadays, smoke stained walls lined with memorabalia including pictures of former customers who once supped pints of porter in the pub. Here is a tribute to the way things were, a representative record of what survives and a reminder of the continuing allure of the Irish pub. In these pages, everyone can find the real thing.
Voted number 3 in The Irish Post "Top 10 pubs in Ireland"
Ryanair magazine- "Clancy's is one of the great music pubs in eastern ireland. The tobacco stained walls are strewn withold music scores and photos of musicians. A true old style country bar "
"The Back Bar"
OPENED IN 2008 Clancy's Back Bar is quirky and positively unique. Located at the back of the pub this attracts a younger clientelle and boasts a fully heated smoking Terrace attached to the back bar! Clancys is the home of the FREE PARTY VENUE ! Great for parites, fundraisers and the like!
TRADITIONAL IRISH MUSIC SESSIONS (Longest Running session in Ireland) (45years)
Clancy's is home to the longest running session in Ireland ! 45 years and still running. In 1966, Jim Clancy evicted all the dusty old bags of maize from the grocers storeroom and reopened it as a music room. Nearly forty five years later, Clancy’s is considered one of the greatest music pubs of eastern Ireland. The weekly ‘seisun’ still takes place. Every thursday night, somewhere between twelve and fifteen musicians now congregate here. They play fiddles, bodhrans, flutes and mandolines and sing songs. The tobacco-stained walls are pasted with scores from songbook, classical and traditional. Musicians come form all over to this very special session, the quality of musicians is second to none ! The may bank holiday weekend we celebrate TRADATHY, Clancy's very own trad Music Festival!
